Reality of taking pain killers for treatable pains
We are all guilty at one time or another for taking an extra pain killer when a pain gets too bad. Or, even taking your next dose a little bit sooner than you should have. But that doesn’t make it okay.
It is unfortunately normalised that if you’re in pain you take a paracetamol or an ibuprofen, even if it is the same recurring type of pain. Instead of thinking ‘my back shouldn’t hurt this much let me find out why.’ We blow it off and think ‘my back is annoying me let me have pain killer, it’ll get better on it’s own’ even though it doesn’t.
If you’re nodding your head thinking ‘yeah I do that’, let me ask you this question. Why are you relying on painkillers when you could get the problem solved?
How do I get the problem solved without pain killers?
First things first you should go get checked out. Whether it is a chiropractor, a massage therapist, a physiotherapist and so on. You’ve got to look at your problem and find out who would best help you. If you still don’t know we recommend guests come for an initial consultation and we direct you from there.
What you have to remember is that Chiropractors aim to find the cause of the problem. We don’t want to cover up your symptoms- we want to get rid of them. We can tell you now, painkillers are not the answers. Especially not in the long run.
What are my options?
Our chiropractors will always recommend the best treatment for you. Whether it is just chiropractic, or both chiropractic and massage therapy, or even Shockwave or IDD therapy. We have a variety of treatments that can be used to help you.
Sometimes there are different avenues we can take when trying to correct your problem. Healing takes time but in the long run it is so much better for you and your health to stick with treatment.
Just because you’re feeling better after an adjustment or two doesn’t mean your pain won’t return. Just like if you go to the gym once, it doesn’t mean you’re going to be fit for the rest of your life.
What happens now?
Give us a call, get booked in, receive treatment, maintain your pain free life, live life to the fullest. It is as simple as that. If you get any new problems or issues during this time all you have to do is let us know. By having maintenance any issues that do disrupt your life in any way can be solved and sorted as soon as possible.
Certain problems can start small and only mildly annoying. As time goes on the pain increases and the problem isn’t as simple as it once was. Our body can’t heal a muscle that’s displaced and unaided. Just like you wouldn’t wait 3 weeks to go to the hospital if your leg was broken. Ultimately if you did that then you would be in a worse off position than if you had just gone to begin with.
Like all things you just have to take that first step. If you’re nervous about seeing a chiropractor then bring a friend with you, if you’re not too sure what would help your problem then ask us for advice. We are here to help you live a pain free life, a life where you can move freely.
